The Studios at Forbes Building is opening itself for the first time to new occupants who work within the creative industries. Here is an opportunity to move into a studio workspace environment alongside other creative people whether your forte be fashion, art, sculpture, graphics or music, the list goes on. As an introduction to the this fabulous victorian building an open evening has been organised for the evening of:

Representing some of its most loyal artsist and designers by selling high end quality designer maker products and artwork.

Designers Marketplace Pop-Up Shop

Since November last year the Designers Marketplace has moved on and developed faster than we could have imagined. With a following of over 80 super talented artists and designers some travelling as far from London, Edinburgh, Derbyshire and Cumbria just to attend. Plans are now underway to expand the opportunities provided to the loyal followers of the market.

Designers Marketplace is planning a move into retail under the new scheme and concept of 'pop-up shop'. In addition to the markets which currently run on a quarterly basis, the more permanent space will be within Middlesbrough town centre and sell works by artists and designers from around the region. Products on sale will be exclusive to non-commercial designer maker products and artwork.
The shop will also be used as a gallery space with rotational exhibitions on a regular basis, again representing local artsists, illustrators and photographers. Developments will be underway before the end of the year.

Just a wee small reminder about the market this Saturday being held at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt. Opening at 11am until 4.30pm, with free entry!

The first 100 guests will receive a free copy of the latest issue of NUDE Magazine so get yourselves down early.

This month you will be seeing the best line up of talent yet, 40 different artists and designers coming from as far afield as Glasgow, London and Derbyshire, giving you the chance to buy high end design products minus the gallery and boutique mark ups.

Print designer ELLA DORAN, couture collections from CCAD FASHION ENTERPRISE, SUZANNE PORTER and SISTERS WARDROBE, screen printed textile accessories all the way from Glasgow by SHOWPONY, graphic illustration from local designer ASHLEY FAUGUEL, hand printed ceramics fashion accessories by local collective DESIGN MOB, mens wallets by BOREAL, art prints by IAIN CLARK, contemporary canvas artwork by AUDREY NEWHOUSE and many more....

Fashion Fil will be spinning his uber cool record collection throughout the day, the bar will also be open for non-alcoholic refreshments and there will be some tasty cakes to be tried.

...to everyone who turned up for the event last Saturday, we had an amazing amount of visitors to the market, that being just under 900. Much fun had by all! Be sure not to miss the second date on Thursday 11th December, opening at 4.30pm until 9.00pm for a LATE EVENING CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. A great time to buy Christmas treats and eat lots of mince pies!

The Designers Marketplace had a ten minute slot on BBC Radio Tees yesterday morning, it was a good interview with chance to explain the market and the idea behind it in full, all of the product areas got a mention, and label name drops were made! Hopefully this will spark up even more interest for us all…

Both events before Christmas have been advertised as part of the ‘Love Middlesbrough Campaign’ organised by Middlesbrough Council in their new brochure. This will be going out free to every household in Middlesbrough and its surrounding town areas.

And also just a massive thanks to Michelle and Claire at Middlesbrough Council for helping to fund and organise a huge banner to be hung outside the town hall on the run up to and during the day of the events!

So after attending the Fashion Network (North-East) first inaugural meeting this evening, I am pleased to announce that the Designers Marketplace will be hosting a stand to the Fashion Network for all of you creatives to come on down and chat it up with like minded people. Helping to build on the idea of a support network for regional designers, artists, start-up businesses…anything relating, and perhaps gain a few useful contacts. Be sure to introduce yourselves.
